About
DCWA
For more than a
quarter century, the Detroit Council for World Affairs (DCWA) has
brought international speakers and presentations to the Detroit
community, helping internationalize our important region.
The
purpose of DCWA is to promote a deeper understanding of international
issues as well as Detroit's role in a changing world by providing
members with a non-partisan, nation-wide forum for informed discussion,
analysis and debate. DCWA enriches local education, promotes a climate
for long-term economic development, and enhances individuals' lives by
accessing new, distinctive ideas and cultural perspectives.
The goals of DCWA are as follows:
1)
Help people relate their local concerns to global issues;
2) Stimulate local
enterprises to interact effectively in the global economy;
3) Foster international interests particularly among young people;
4) Build citizen support for a responsible U.S. foreign policy;
5) Empower citizens to participate in the national debate on world
affairs and to undertake informed choices;
6) Encourage strategic alliances and cooperative programming; and
7) Exercise a leadership
role in the Detroit Metropolitan area.
DCWA is an affiliate of the
World Affairs Councils of America (WACA), the largest international
affairs non-profit organization in the United States. The council
system has 433,000 participants, with outreach to over 24,000,000 people
each year.
