Welcome to CPCS!
Mission
Statement
The
mission of the Center for Peace & Conflict Studies is to develop and
implement projects, programs, curricula, research and publications in
areas of scholarship related to international and domestic peace, war,
social justice, arms control, globalization, multicultural awareness and
constructive conflict resolution.
CPCS
addresses this mission through three perspectives.
1) CPCS supports undergraduate and graduate excellence through its student
degree and related
academic
programs, offering Michigan's only peace
studies co-major, and as part of the CULMA Masters and Graduate
Certificate in Dispute Resolution.
2) CPCS staff and its Hewlett
sponsored Mediating Theory and Democratic Systems program (MTDS) engage in
scholarly research initiatives on aspects of domestic and international
conflict management.
3) CPCS provides community outreach programs that:
a) Emphasize conflict resolution education through Second Step violence
prevention training in Detroit Public Schools;
b) Develop intercultural understanding through Multicultural Experience in
Leadership Development (MELD) program; and
c) Enhance global education through the Detroit Council for World Affairs
(DCWA).
